While you're making these gold leaf decorations, buy some extra glass baubles to make a few in black and white. This classic color combo is as hot as ever, making it the perfect time to add it to your ornament collection. You can make all sorts of fun designs with double-sided tape and glitter!
- Clear glass ornaments
- Black and white acrylic paint
- Double-sided tape
- Black and white glitter
- Yarn or string
1. Paint the Inside of the Ornament
Take the cap off and squeeze a good amount of black or white paint into the top of the ornament. Cover the top hole of the bauble with your finger and shake until the entire inside of the ornament is covered. Keep the cap off and let any excess paint drain out.
2. Apply Double-Sided Tape
Decide on the pattern or design you want on the ornament and cut out shapes from double-sided tape. Get creative with simple shapes like hearts, diamonds or stars. I love a simple geometric look so I used triangles to create trees, simple graphic rows and a scattered 'confetti' look.
Stack two overlapping triangles on the ornament to create the tree.
3. Apply Glitter
Pour on the glitter. A fine craft glitter in the opposite tone works (and looks) best. Don't worry about being too neat when pouring because the more glitter that sticks, the better it will look. You can dust off the excess.
4. Paint in Details
After you shake off the excess glitter, you can use acrylic paint and a fine paintbrush to add a stem to the tree, if desired, and fill in any holes. Use acrylic paint in the same shade as your glitter (either black or white).
Pour on a bit more glitter to adhere to the paint.
5. Finish the Ornament
Clean up any excess glitter or paint with your fingernail or a damp paper towel.
Attach a piece of ribbon or yarn to the top of the ornament, and they are ready to hang!
Hang the Baubles on Your Tree
