What You'll Be Creating

Easter doesn't have to be all about Easter egg hunts and eating enough chocolate to last the rest of the year. (Who am I kidding?) Although these are brilliant traditions, why not make yourself (or someone special) a little Easter present that will last more than a week (a day) in the form of this geometric bunny head pendant necklace.

Supplies

  • A5 sheet of shrink plastic
  • Ruler
  • Sharp point for scoring
  • Necklace chain
  • Jump rings
  • Heat-proof gloves (recommended)
  • Print-out of bunny template

1. Create the Geo Bunny Head

Step 1

Download and print out the bunny head PDF template by clicking the picture below.

Step 2

Cut around the outline of your paper template and use this as a stencil to cut out the shape on a sheet of shrink plastic. You can use some masking tape to tape the paper to the plastic. This makes it easier to cut without slipping.

Step 3

Score each of the lines shown on the template. Turn the shape over and score again on the other side. This will allow you to give the bunny head more shape and definition

You can bend it into shape to see if you've missed any lines.

Step 4

Using a hole punch, make two holes. Punch a hole in each ear. These will shrink with the rest of the plastic, so don't worry if they look big right now.

2. Heat and Shape the Shrink Plastic

Step 1

Read the instructions of your shrink plastic packaging carefully. You will usually use a medium-hot oven to shrink your plastic for just a few minutes. Stay near the oven to make sure you don't over-cook it! You will also need to watch out for the shape sticking together as it heats and flattens. If this happens, carefully pull the sections apart and continue to heat.

Step 2

Once the plastic is hot and malleable, carefully but quickly take it from the oven and begin bending the plastic at the scored lines. You will probably need to reheat and bend a number of times until you're happy with the shape. You can use your ruler to create crisp lines. This may take some time, but you can reheat the shrink plastic a number of times, so keep going until you get it right. Be careful with your fingers, though! If you have heat-proof gloves, this is a good time to wear them.

3. Add Your Bunny to a Necklace Chain

Step 1

Take your necklace chain, find the middle and split into two.

Step 2

Attach a bunny ear to each end of the split chain using a jump ring.

Ready to Wear - Or Gift It!

In this tutorial, I covered how to make a geometric bunny-shaped pendant necklace.

I've made this version larger than normal so that the tutorial is easier to follow. If you want to make a smaller pendant, save the PDF template and decrease the size in a photo editing program. Remember the plastic will shrink to around a fifth of its original size, so don't go too small!
